Introduction
Investopedia now supports trading of Cryptocurrency! You can access this new feature by clicking on the "Crypto" action button available just adjacent to the user account section (near the top right corner).
Walk-Through
Once entered into the crypto trading platform, you will see the dashboard below with your crypto portfolio page.
Account Value = Displays the total current value of your portfolio, which is updated daily.
Cash = Total amount of cash available for making trades.
24-Hour Change = Your account's gains/losses over the past 24 hours.
How to start trading?
Step 1 -
Click on "Trade". You'll see a list of popular cryptocurrencies like below. Select your preferred crypto or search for it in the search panel.
Step 2 -
A dialogue box will appear which will ask you to enter the trade details as shown below. Please enter the details and place your order.
Step 3 -
Once the order is executed, the cash will be debited from your Cash balance and cryptos will be credited to your portfolio. You can view it under the Holding section.

Q: Why am I not able to trade in all the cryptocurrencies?
A: Please note that currently, the Simulator only supports the most popular 25 cryptocurrencies.
Q: When I search for some cryptocurrency, sometimes it shows invalid, and other times it works fine. What does that mean?
A: If you're able to search and trade for your desired cryptocurrency, this means it's on our most popular 25 cryptocurrencies list. Right now the trade preview only shows the top 11, but we have shared this feedback with our product team in case we update this in the future.
Q: Are market orders executed immediately for crypto?
A: Yes, the price is updated in real time and orders are executed immediately once placed.
Q: Why are my trades showing as pending?
A: Market orders will process immediately, but limit/stop limit trades will move into the pending trades section until it meets the criteria that you submitted in your order.
Q: Can I do short selling on crypto?
A: No, currently the feature of short-selling cryptocurrencies is not available on the simulator.
Q: Can I create a private or public game on the crypto simulator?
A: No, currently the feature of creating a separate game is not available for cryptocurrency at this time.
Q: Can I link my stock simulator game with the crypto simulator and trade cryptocurrencies in it?
A: No, you cannot link the stock and crypto games. Also, the transfer of any cryptocurrency to the stock simulator game is not possible on the Stock Simulator.
